Avery Stanert
I am a special education teacher in Howard County, Maryland. I began as an art major at Rochester Institute of Technology but after graduating and living in Los Angeles for a year doing design work, I moved home to pursue working with children. While working on my certification to teach, I worked as a paraeducator in my current school to soak up everything I could about the education world. I was eventually hired as a special education teacher and even though it is a demanding job, I feel lucky every day to not only teach but learn from children. |
Being that I went to a technology centered college, I have always been interested in learning new tools and technologies. I am currently working towards my graduate degree at Loyola University Maryland in Educational Technology. This is a blog where I will post a lot of information that may have started as a project, but I feel many educators would benefit from. It's also a place for me to just reflect and share.
Club157 is named after my resource room #157. I teach students who are at an age where leaving with the "special ed" teacher creates a stigma and I didn't like this. I wanted the other students to be jealous of the students that got to go to my pullout room because it looked fun and inviting. The county I teach in promotes inclusion of special needs students so I co-teach with the general education teacher. I work with all the students in the class so this helps everyone have their needs met. I love co-teaching because I get to be in many classrooms in the school, learn from different types of teachers, and work with a variety of kids! I live in Hunt Valley, MD with my fiance and my 2 amazing cats, Claire and Kandinsky. If you would like to check out some of the technologies I am using as a teacher, check out my Symbaloo. Also, feel free to check out my classroom website (currently transitioning my old site over to Weebly so it's a work in progress). |
